'Are they going to resign?' Legal expert says Trump DOJ may have prompted 'open rebellion'

Reacting to the explosive legal drama playing out in New York where an acting U.S. attorney resigned rather than drop corruption charges against NYC Mayor Eric Adams, a former member of Manhattan District Attorney’s Office said it could have a major ripple effect across the country.

Late Thursday, interim U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, Danielle Sassoon and five other officials resigned when pressured by the acting No. 2 official at the Justice Department, Emil Bove, to drop the case.

That set off explosive accusations of a quid pro quo deal between Donald Trump's DOJ and Adams' lawyer that has the legal community reeling.

During an appearance on MSNBC's "Morning Joe," former prosecutor Catherine Christian was asked by co-host Jonathan Lemire about what he called an "open rebellion" among prosecutors.

Calling what has transpired so far, "Shocking, outrageous, extraordinary. and disheartening," Christian admitted, "I'm not surprised that all of these prosecutors resigned."

"The current acting U.S. attorneys throughout the country, the people who have been nominated to be U.S. attorneys, they have to look in the mirror and ask themselves, 'Do I want to be in that same position?'" she proposed. "And they have to decide, are they going to go forward and agree to be the U.S. attorney, or are they going to resign as current acting U.S. attorneys are going to wait and see what happens?"
