Waukesha suspect goes for a bite to eat after Christmas parade carnage: video

A doorbell camera shows the Wisconsin man asking a random stranger for a sandwich shortly after he allegedly drove into a Christmas parade, killing five people and injuring dozens more.

The video was recorded by a resident's device about a half-mile from the Waukesha route that 39-year-old Darrell Brooks is accused of plowing his SUV into, and a timestamp on the video shows he showed up on the doorstep about 20 minutes after the carnage, reported NBC News.

"I called an Uber and I'm supposed to be waiting for it over here, but I don't know when it's coming," Brooks says in the video. "Can you call it for me please? I'm homeless."

The resident, Daniel Rider, said he had been away on a hunting trip and was watching football on TV when Brooks showed up asking for help, and he had not heard about the fatal crash just blocks away, so he invited the man inside, gave him a jacket, made him a sandwich and let him use his phone.

"All of a sudden," Rider said, "I look outside my street and I see a few cop cars drive by and I'm getting extra nervous."

Rider asked Brooks to leave, and he did, but he returned a short time later, "pounding" on the door and saying he had left his ID behind.

"Then the next thing you know," Rider said, "you see the cops with lights on him saying, 'hands in the air, hands in the air.'"
