Devin Nunes schedules secretive fundraiser with warning to attendees to not reveal location

Embattled Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA) has gone underground with his re-election campaign fundraisers, the San Luis Obispo Tribunereported Thursday.

"Central Valley Congressman Devin Nunes is coming to San Luis Obispo County for a Republican fundraiser in June. That’s assuming 'tight security issues' don’t upend the plans, as they did at a recent Nunes event," the Tribune reported.

The newspaper obtained a copy of the invite to the fundraiser, which advertised $55 tickets for general admission or $150 for VIP access.

"But the email also includes this unusual message to recipients: 'Due to tight security issues, please DO NOT POST anything about this event on your social media: Not your website, Facebook, Twitter nor any other! Thank you!'" the newspaper reported.

This was not the first time "security" has been cited.

"It’s unclear what the security issues might be or why the group wouldn’t want to widely publicize an event planned as a fundraiser," Tribune noted. "Earlier this month, Nunes, former chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, was scheduled to be the keynote speaker at a dinner for the Fresno County Republican Party, but it was canceled after a wave of social media posts urged people to disrupt the event, The Fresno Bee reported. In a tweet, the Fresno Republican Party cited 'security reasons' as the motivation."

Nunes' staff have a history of calling 9-1-1 on protesters.

"In recent years, Nunes has scaled back public appearances in his home district," the newspaper noted.

While Nunes has not been meeting with constituents, the congressman did find the time to sue Twitter for a parody account.

Nunes is also suing his hometown newspaper, the Fresno Bee via parent company McClatchy.

In their story on Nunes' secret San Luis Obispo fundraiser, the Tribune, which is also owned by McClatchy, noted, "McClatchy has not yet been served with the lawsuit" that Nunes announced weeks ago.
