According to a report from the Wall Street Journal, there is no shortage of applicants to be part of Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy's fledgling "Department of Government Efficiency" (DOGE) being created by Donald Trump's administration which has been taking online applications for weeks.
The problem seems to be many of those willing to work for free to search out government waste have been left checking their email and hanging by the phone waiting to hear back with no response, according to the report.
As the Journal's Joseph De Avila is reporting, "Entrepreneurs, cryptocurrency consultants, real-estate professionals, software developers and insurance executives said they are vying to land a position" with DOGE despite questions on whether they will paid for being “willing to work 80+ hours per week on unglamorous cost-cutting.”

According to one applicant, Sarah Armstrong, a 55-year-old CPA, she welcomes the chance to "serve the country, and more importantly the people."
The report notes that "Initially, applicants had to be premium X subscribers to message the DOGE account [on X, formerly known as Twitter], but that requirement has since been removed," with Armstong claiming she didn't mind the expense when submitting her résumé.
However, De Avila wrote, getting a response has not been as smooth as applying.
"Most applicants who spoke to The Wall Street Journal said they haven’t been contacted about an interview. Some submitted their applications weeks ago," he wrote before adding that Courtney Guertin, 46, of Los Angeles stated he does have an interview scheduled before admitting, "I’m not an expert in government at this time."
