Domestic violence suspect shoots Florida cop and takes four children hostage

A domestic violence suspect shot an Orlando police officer and took four children hostage.

The gunman is holding the children -- ages 12, 10, 7 and 1 -- hostage inside an apartment as police attempt to negotiate an end to the armed standoff, reported WESH-TV.

Police responded to the domestic violence call late Sunday near Universal Orlando, and the suspect shot and wounded an officer, who underwent surgery for serious injuries but is expected to survive.

Officers evacuated other residents of the Westbrook Apartments complex shortly before midnight.

It's not clear whether the gunman or children have been injured in the standoff.
