Fox News pundit mocked for shrugging off Trump's legal woes as 'some issues in the court'

What do you call 91 criminal charges in four separate court cases, a $250 million civil fraud trial, a pending $10 million civil defamation lawsuit and presidential ballot-blocking litigation filed in 32 states across the U.S.?

If you’re Fox News' Julie Banderas, and you’re talking about former President Donald Trump, you call it “some issues in the court system.”

Banderas used these words Friday to bemoan the “double standard” she says Trump is facing in Colorado and Maine, two states that have ruled Trump cannot appear on the 2024 presidential ballots under the 14th Amendment’s insurrectionist ban.

“What if a Republican leader in any state, you name it, decides we’re going to take Biden off the ballot?” Banderas asked after quickly referencing an impeachment inquiry Republicans admit has yet to produce evidence of criminality. “If they did, there would be a huge outcry.”

Banderas then declared, “But when it happens to a former president, who happens to be Republican, who obviously has some issues in the court system, it’s a different story.”

Trump might agree, having pleaded not guilty to the criminal charges and denying wrongdoing in the civil, but Democrats who saw the video on X Friday afternoon begged to differ.

“Obviously has some problems in the court system?” wrote Ken Bach, who is running for Congress in Pennsylvania. “An insurrection is a big deal.”

"’Some issues,’" quipped Kody Macaulay, a House of Representatives hopeful from Oklahoma. “90+ to give a little more context.”

So did some journalists.

“When you put Trump's attempted coup and theft of nuclear secrets into the Fox-o-matic machine, what comes out is a MAGA-friendly reference to 'some issues in the court system.'” wrote former Chicago Tribune editor Mark Jacob.

“Some ‘issues,’” added former Conde Nast editor Jerry Kavanagh, “like inciting an insurrection, sending the mob against your V.P.”

And the self-described “cockeyed optimist" Dave Beauvais, who wrote, “having some issues with the court system is like describing an arm amputation as a manicure.”
