Donald Trump defends crude genitalia remark about Hillary Clinton: I meant she received a beating

Attempting to put out one of the many fires created by his crude comments about Democratic Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, Donald Trump offered up a novel definition of the word "schlonged," saying it means "beaten" and has nothing to do with male genitals.

Using Twitter -- his favorite medium for reaching the U.S. public -- Trump wrote: "When I said that Hillary Clinton got schlonged by Obama, it meant got beaten badly. The media knows this. Often used word in politics!"

The common usage of the term "schlong" is as a slang reference to a penis.

During a Trump appearance in Grand Rapids, Michigan, the GOP presidential front runner discussed Clinton's 2008 Democratic primary loss to then-Sen. Barack Obama, saying, “She was going to beat Obama. I don’t know who’d be worse. I don’t know. How does it get worse? She was favored to win and she got schlonged. She lost. She lost.”

Trump also criticized Clinton's late return  from a bathroom break during the Democratic debate, saying whatever she was doing was "disgusting."

Critics of Trump were divided on which of his comments was most offensive, with the candidate once again defending a apparent misogynistic reference by saying it had been misinterpreted.

Following the first GOP debate, Trump attacked Fox News personality Megyn Kelly for her harsh questioning of him, telling CNN's Don Lemon: “You could see there was blood coming out of her eyes, blood coming out of her wherever. In my opinion, she was off-base.”

Trump later defended the "blood" comments, saying he meant out of Kelly's nose and eyes, saying only a "deviant" would think he was making a crack about menstruation.

“Only a deviant would make that jump,” Trump told NBC's Chuck Todd. “I went to the Wharton School of Finance, the toughest place to get into. I was a great student. I don’t talk that way.”

As for "schlong," multiple Twitter users pointed out to the billionaire businessman that both the Random House dictionary and the more colloquial Urban Dictionary both state that the word describes a penis.

More playful Twitter users mocked Trump's newest definition of "schlong" with #ReplaceAwordWithSchlong.
