President Donald Trump suggested he would pull the nomination for Ed Marton, acting U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia.
Trump made the statement Thursday after at least one key U.S. senator said he would vote against Martin. At a press conference, Trump was asked if he had a "backup plan" for Martin.
"Oh, I do. Yeah," the president admitted. "He wasn't getting the support from people that I thought, you know, he's done a very good job."

"But we have somebody else that will be great," he added. "And hopefully we can bring him into whether it's D.O.J. or whatever in some capacity because really outstanding. It was to me, it was disappointing. I'll be honest. I have to be straight. I was disappointed."
"But that's the way it works sometimes... And he wasn't rejected, but we felt it would be very, it would be hard."
Martin has come under fire for his role in defending and advocating for Jan. 6 rioters. He has also been criticized for praising a Nazi sympathizer who participated in the riot.
