'Find an immediate solution:' Trump demands Alabama preserve IVF after court ruling

Former President Donald Trump called on Alabama Republicans to act after the state Supreme Court put in vitro fertilization procedures in peril by ruling frozen embryos are babies.

"Today, I am calling on the Alabama Legislature to act quickly to find an immediate solution to preserve the availability of IVF in Alabama," Trump wrote on Truth Social platform Friday. "We want to make it easier for mothers and fathers to have babies, not harder! That includes supporting the availability of fertility treatments like IVF in every State in America."

Trump called on the Alabama Legislature to preserve the availability of IVF procedures in Alabama.

"The Republican Party should always be on the side of the Miracle of Life - and the side of Mothers, Fathers, and their Beautiful Babies," he wrote. "IVF is an important part of that, and our Great Republican Party will always be with you, in your quest, for the ULTIMATE JOY IN LIFE!"

Alabama's ruling extended the state's personhood definitions in the Constitution to declare frozen embryos are people, and their destruction is subject to wrongful death suits.

Several key providers of IVF in the state have suspended operations, fearful they could be subject to prosecution.

The ruling frequently references right-wing Biblical ideology. Chief Justice Tom Parker, who was part of that ruling, stated in an interview with a QAnon conspiracy theorist that he is a Christian nationalist who backs the so-called "Seven Mountains Mandate" which commands evangelicals to seize control of every institution of government and culture.

Republicans have been scrambling to contain the fallout of the controversy.

Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-AL), gave a muddled response to reporters which suggested he didn't even know what IVF is, and Trump's primary opponent, former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, condemned the decision even as she expressed the opinion that embryos are human beings.
