CNN's John Berman cut off a Republican congressman when he tried to change the subject from Jeffrey Epstein to Barack Obama.
The House Oversight Committee released thousands of emails written by the late sex offender, many of which mention President Donald Trump by name, and the "CNN News Central" host asked Rep. Pete Sessions (R-TX) to comment on the White House response.
"You have been workinga long time to get thisinformation released," Berman said. "The White House yesterday held a meetingat the Situation Room with someof the highest officials in thecountry, with members of yourown party to try to get them tovote against the dischargepetition, which you're against, too. I want to say, but why doyou think the White House isworking so hard as you'reworking to get stuff released? Why is the White House workingso hard to keep information frombeing released?"
Sessions, who serves on the Oversight Committee, suggested the Trump administration was handling the matter the same way as preceding administrations.
"In fairness to thecircumstance, I would sayprobably for the same reasonthat President Obama'sadministration, President [Joe] Biden's administration did notrelease this data," Sessions said. "Theinformation that we get, whereit's factually based and comesfrom official law enforcementabout the conclusions that theydrew about who was involved, isone matter, to simply take thingsthat are emails and accusationsthat people make is not alegitimate way for us toapproach this. So I assume thatjust like President Biden and President Obama and theiradministrative team at the Department of Justice probablyconcluded that it needed to bedone in a different way, I didnot ever really approach it.They did not approach it, andwe're trying to do that now."
Berman was not persuaded by his explanation and noted one significant difference.
"As far as I know, I will sayneither President Obama nor President Biden is mentioned inthese trove of documents thathave been released so far," Berman said. "Donald Trump is repeatedly."
