Donald Trump Jr. ditched Secret Service protection to kill a moose in Canada -- 'a big one, too'

Donald Trump Jr. ditched his Secret Service detail this month to go moose hunting in Canada.

The president's son reportedly "demanded" an end to his family’s Secret Service protection, but it was restored after one week after the agency pushed back.

While he was away from the protection detail, Trump Jr. flew to the Yukon to hunt, according to a detailed report in the New York Times Magazine.

Trump Jr. spent a week with friends to go bow hunting in the sparsely populated territory, the magazine reported.

It's not clear who Trump Jr. hunted with, but he claims he killed a moose -- "big one, too," according to the president's son.

The president’s immediate family is authorized to receive protection, but relatives aren’t required to use it.

The president’s eldest son previously asked to travel without Secret Service protection during a family trip in June, which the agency reluctantly approved.
