'It's really embarrassing': Pro-Trump forces plunging Nevada's GOP into chaos with 'power grab'

Turmoil is consuming the Republican Party in Nevada, where a far-right insurgency has plunged the state's party into chaos.

Donald Trump lost the state by slightly more than two points, and Republicans feel they have a chance of beating Democratic Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto and Gov. Steve Sisolak in 2022, but those efforts might be undermined by challenges to GOP leadership in the state, reported Politico.

"I'm tired of seeing the BS," said Michael Jack, a former vice chair of the Washoe County GOP. "We could do so much in this state. This is a center-right state. There is no reason the Democrats should have dominated the legislature the last three cycles … It's ridiculous, and it's because the focus of the state party has always gone to where the money is, and that's the top of the ticket."

Several Republican officials in Washoe County, the state's second-most populous county, have stepped down after pro-Donald Trump activists have roiled the party, and those far-right activists are threatening GOP chances in elections up and down the slate.

"Oh my God," said former state GOP chair Amy Tarkanian. "It's really, really embarrassing, just as a whole."

Pro-Trump activists have upended GOP organizations for "failing to investigate" the twice-impeached one-term president's lies about voter fraud, while the two factions in Clark County -- the state's most populous -- are fighting in court over the election of party leaders.

"It's a simple — I don't want to call it a power grab — but it's a maintenance of power [by state party leaders]," said Stephen Silberkraus, a former Nevada Republican assemblyman who's trying to block the election of state party officers. "It really is a house divided."
