President Donald Trump's approval ratings are underwater across the board, and CNN's Harry Enten said they potentially could get even worse.
The president has rarely enjoyed majority support across his two non-consecutive terms in office, but Enten told "CNN News Central" that Trump has spent more than nine months underwater.
"Trump's negativenet approval rating every singleday since March 12, Trump hasbeen in the red – negative," Enten said. "Thatis days in a row, 281. He hasspent more time underwater than Jacques Cousteau, for goodnesssake. The bottom line is thisthe American people don't likewhat Trump is doing, and theyhaven't liked what Trump'sdoing for a long period of time."
"On what issues? All of them – all of them, all the key issues," Enten added. "Because, take a look here:Trump's negative approvalrating, he's underwater acrossthe board. Immigration, a keyissue for him, underwater by sixpoints. Foreign policy, which hasbeen one of his better issues, underwater by 14 points. Tradeand tariffs, of course, this hasbeen a key component of Trump'spresidency, underwater by 15points. The economy, the reason Trump got elected to a secondterm, underwater by 16 points, and the Epstein case, which Ithink we'll be talking a lotabout going into the latter partof this week, underwater by 29points. Negative, negative, negative, negative, negative. It's just not any good for thepresident of United States."
Those negative results could weigh down the Republican Party like an anchor in next year's elections, Enten said.
"If historyis any guide, it's not a goodone for you because take a lookhere," he said. "Term two negative netapproval ratings, at this pointwent positive by the midterm.Well, we have three examples: Richard Nixon, he was forced outof office. Of course, he neverwent positive. George W. Bush, henever saw positive territoryagain. Barack Obama earlier thiscentury, he did not go positiveby the midterm. We got thequestion mark for Donald Trump. But again, negative, negative, negative."
"It's just negativeacross the board for thepresident of the United states, he'sagain going to have to breakhistory," Enten added. "He's done it before. But he's really going to haveto do it if he really wants togive his Republican Party muchof a chance come the 2026midterms. Because if the numberslook like this and look likethis, well, this will becomeanother X."
