How Donald Trump will be ‘crippled’ by hearings heading into the 2020 election

Publicly televised hearings by in the House of Representatives are going to "cripple" President Donald Trump, New York Times contributing op-ed writer Wajahat Ali explained on MSNBC's "All In" with Chris Hayes.

Not Trump's fondness for appropriating from "Game of Thrones," Ali suggested the message for 2019 is "subpoenas are coming."

"And now that we have a blue-wave-slash-tsunami, we're going to have ... a lot of hearings, a lot of subpoenas," he explained.

Ali noted that on Friday, Trump would tie the record for presiding over the longest government shutdown in America history, with 800,000 employees missing their paycheck.

"And guess what, it doesn't matter if you're a Republican or a Democrat, you like to eat food and pay your bills," he reminded.

"I know it's not sexy when you hear about subpoenas and hearings, but I do think that these hearings are going to cripple Donald Trump, especially when they investigate the financial trail," he predicted. "I think that's what's ultimately going to cripple him going up to the 2020 election."
