Donny Deutsch on Trump's win: 'Half of this country was going to wake up very afraid'

With Donald Trump's shocking presidential win on Tuesday, MSNBC's Donny Deutsch explained that tens of millions of voters were waking up this morning deathly afraid of what had just happened.

"Look, this election was always about fear," Deutsch said. "Fear of the status quo, and fear of the, kind of, temperamentally unknown. And fear of the status quo won. And unfortunately, this morning, half of this country was going to wake up very afraid... Right now, if you're a Muslim, you're very afraid in this country. If you have a child that's bullied in school, you are terrified. If you're a woman that sometimes gets harassed at work, you're afraid this morning."

Deutsch went onto say that while he had had pleasant interactions with Trump on a personal basis in the past, he came to view him as "repugnant" as the campaign wore on.

Deutsch’s only hope was that maybe Trump's 17 months' worth of bigoted and cruel comments were just an act, and that he would soon reach out to minority communities to repair his relationships with them.

"I hope to God, for my sake, for my children's sake, that the guy who behaved the way that he did during this campaign is not the guy who's going to be president," he said.
