Fox News is unable to hold their hosts accountable -- even as advertisers leave, because they are scared of their audience, the head of the watchdog group Media Matters for America (MMFA) explained on Saturday.
The comments came after the network apparently benched former Judge Jeanine Pirro one week after the network had to condemn her Islamophobic smear of Rep. Ihan Omar (D-MN).
CNN chief media correspondent Brian Stelter reported "the circumstances suggest that Jeanine Pirro has been suspended" but "definitely hasn't been fired."
MMFA president Angelo Carusone said, "Pirro is not an outlier at Fox News. The bigotry on her program is perfectly in sync with the the rest of Fox’s programming and present everywhere else on the network."
Carusone then issued a dire analysis of the current situation at the network.
"Here’s what should really scare people: Fox News *can’t* hold their hosts accountable even if they wanted to," Carusone explained. "Their audience would turn on them. Fast. So they play these games."
"Basically even Fox News is afraid of the Fox News audience these days," he added.
