Even Pat Robertson thinks Young Earth creationists are nuts: 'Deaf, dumb, and blind'

Televangelist Pat Robertson is not known for his progressive views, but even he recently lashed out at Young Earth creationists who think that the Earth is only 6,000 years old.

On the Tuesday 700 Club broadcast, a viewer challenged Robertson for agreeing with scientists that the Earth was billions of years old.

"How can we conceive that there were millions of years between Adam and Noah, and millions of years between Noah and Abraham and more millions between Moses and King David and Daniel and the Apostle Paul?" the viewer wanted to know. "And now, 2,000 years later, here we are. Please explain further."

"You have to be deaf, dumb and blind to think that this Earth that we live in only has 6,000 years of existence," Robertson replied. "It just doesn't. I'm sorry."

"I've got some interest in oil, and you're not drilling in the Jurassic zone, 65 million years ago," he continued. "When those dinosaurs were here, they were rotting in the Earth, and they were making oil. And there's no question about it. There's no question there were dinosaurs. There's no question. There was radiocarbon dating."

Robertson explained that the time frames described in the Bible did not correspond to "days" on the current calendar.

"We haven't worked all the wrinkles out, but I think to deny the clear record that's there before us makes us look silly. And you got the Old Earth/New Earth -- there's no way that all of this that you have here took place in 6,000 years!" he concluded. "It just couldn't have been done. Couldn't possibly have been done."

Last year, hosts of the show Creation Todaysuggested that Robertson did not think that the Bible was divinely inspired because "the Bible clearly tells us that the world is 6,000 years old."
