Ex-DOJ official: Maybe Trump has the 'mentality' of a 4-year-old and can't understand how Russia helped him

Appearing on MSNBC on Thursday afternoon, former Justice Department spokesperson Matthew Miller wondered if President Donald Trump understands how much danger he is in when it comes to Russian involvement in his 2016 presidential campaign.

Speaking with host Katy Tur, Miller explained, "We talk a lot about why the president can't separate Russian interference from collusion."

"Everyone has this theory that it is what his aides tell him because it undermines his election, "Miller continued. "You know, that might not be the reason. He knows what happened in the campaign, he knows what his advisers did, and he knows that there is no difference between interference and collusion."

"We like to think that the president sometimes -- that he has this sort of 4-year-old mentality about him," he added, as host Tur began to talk over him.

"We want to hope that he didn't collude or conspire with a foreign government," Tur suggested. "We want to hope that that is not true."

"At some point, that explanation just doesn't hold up, " Miller replied.

"It doesn't make any sense that someone doesn't understand this very basic logical thing that there is a very basic difference between interference and collusion -- unless he knows there is not a difference," he smirked.
