Ex-Florida college head was carjacked as retaliation for exploiting teen girls: police
Authorities in Daytona Beach, Florida believe the former president of a local college was attacked earlier this year as retaliation for exploiting three teenage girls, WKMG-TV reported on Friday.
Prosecutors could file charges against Matthew McEnany next week, including luring an underage girl for sex. Suspicion began swirling around McEnany after he was carjacked last week, enough that he was suspended from his position at Keiser University shortly after the incident. WKMG stated that, according to the university, he is no longer employed there.
"When you have a 60-year-old man sending 50 text messages to a 15-year-old, that's not good," Police Chief Mike Chitwood said.
McEnany was allegedly offering food, cigarettes and money to three girls -- a 13-year-old, a 14-year-old, and a 15-year-old who was reportedly pregnant -- in exchange for being able to touch them inappropriately.
According to WKMG, McEnany sent text messages reading, "You look sexy today, we can play later and I'll give you $100," and, "You're so pretty, and I can't wait to have sex with you." It is unclear which of the girls received those messages.
As WESH-TV reported at the time, McEnany originally told a dispatcher that he had $100 in his possession when he was attacked by 21-year-old William Smith, saying that he had the money with him to pay a bill. McEnany said he was giving picking up two girls "because they needed a ride" when he was attacked. He identified the two girls as "Luscious" and "Brittany," but it is unclear whether he ever mentioned their ages.
Smith allegedly beat McEnany and drove away from the scene in his SUV with the two girls. He was charged with carjacking and carrying a concealed weapon, and his bond was set at $20,000.
However, Chitwood said that McEnany had actually set up his encounter with the two girls in advance.
"There was a prearranged time to meet and have sex for money," he said, adding that McEnany had been communicating with the girls for months.
"It's pretty sexually graphic and pretty disgusting, to be honest," he said of the messages McEnany exchanged with them.
