Ex-GOP congressman tears into his own party for being too afraid to stand up to Trump

Former Republican congressman turned right wing radio personality Joe Walsh told CNN on Monday that his former House colleagues wouldn't stand up to President Donald Trump because they were a bunch of venal cowards who didn't care about anything other than getting elected.

"You tweeted that 'no Republican can spin the Mueller report,'" said host Brooke Baldwin. "Do you think that's why they've been so quiet?"

"It's an incredibly damning portrait of President Trump. He knew Russia interfered, he welcomed and encouraged that interference, he lied, he encouraged everybody who worked for him to lie, and then he blocked the investigation," Walsh replied. "And I'll tell you, Brooke, every Republican on Capitol Hill agrees with what I just said. They can't say that publicly."

Walsh was also decidedly negative when Baldwin asked if his party was having a conflict of conscience.

"It's politics. The Republicans in the Senate and the House, my former colleagues, they're afraid to speak up, they want to get reelected," he said. "That's all they care about."

"It's weird that the Democrats in the house, they're in the tough position, they have to decide what to do with this," Walsh added. "Nobody is asking the Republicans to do the decent thing and join the Democrats in going after this really unethical behavior."
