'Fake news is what they call any news that they don't like': Tapper slams Trump's attack on CNN cred

CNN's Jake Tapper refuses to accept the excuses from the White House when it comes to their questions on the ties President Donald Trump and his campaign have to Russia.

In a discussion with fellow reporters Jim Sciutto and Evan Pérez, Sciutto noted that the response to their questions has been for White House press secretary Sean Spicer to attack CNN.

"Spicer said, quote, 'We continue to be disgusted by CNN's fake news reporting," Sciutto said. "Spokesman for the FBI, the Department of Justice, the CIA, and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence had no comment."

"Fake news is what they call any news they don't like," Tapper noted.

Just a few weeks ago, a dossier was published by BuzzFeed that alleged Trump hired prostitutes in Russia to urinate on a bed once slept in by President Barack Obama. Pérez explained that the dossier contained 35 pages of allegations that intelligence investigators began looking into to see if it could compromise the president in any way. It detailed approximately 12 intercepted calls between senior Russian officials and other Russian officials

Sciutto underscored the importance in understanding that there is "still a ton in these series of memos...that investigators cannot yet verify as true."

"First, they denied that he had been briefed on it," Tapper said. "Of course, he had been briefed on it, the existence of the dossier."

Pérez said that he reached out to the White House as well for a comment and Tapper asked if it was similar to Sciutto "fake news, blah, blah blah." Pérez replied that Spicer's only reply was to express "displeasure with this story."
