Federal prosecutors are combing through a massive treasure trove of Trump inauguration documents: CNN

Prosecutors at the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York are combing through a giant stash of documents related to President Donald Trump's inauguration, reports CNN's Kara Scannell.

According to Scannell, prosecutors in New York have obtained "tens of thousands" of inauguration-related documents, which she describes as "a sign that the investigation into the committee's finances is advancing."

The documents were handed over in response to what Scannell describes as a "wide-ranging subpoena" that was issued back in February that encompassed the Trump inauguration committee's finances, vendors, and donors.

Among other things, prosecutors are examining whether any of the inauguration's $107 million in funds came from foreign sources, which would be a clear violation of campaign finance laws. Additionally, SDNY is looking at whether the committee broke the law by evading reporting requirements for payments made to certain individuals.

During an appearance on CNN Monday afternoon, Scannell said that the investigation still appears to be in its early stages, as attorneys at SDNY have yet to interview any of the inaugural committee members who were in charge of its finances.
