'Finish what Katrina started': Univ. of Alabama 'appalled' after fans display vile taunt

Officials at the University of Alabama quickly criticized would-be football fans on Friday after they used Hurricane Katrina to taunt their upcoming opponents, AL.com reported.

"UA is appalled that anyone would display a banner with such an inappropriate and offensive statement," the university said in a statement on the school's Twitter account. "It's our understanding that the banner was hung at an off-campus apartment complex and it has been removed."

The banner surfaced online after being posted at the complex in Tuscaloosa, referencing the university's game on Saturday against Louisiana State University by "urging" the Crimson Tide to "finish what Katrina started." The display can be seen below:

The sign may have gotten the attention of LSU star running back Leonard Fournette, a New Orleans native who spent days living on a highway overpass following the 2005 storm, which killed 1,833 people. Fournette posted, "Inspire us to go harder love my savages ..." shortly after the banner was spotted online. His response can be seen below.
