This is the first Christmas since 2002 a president hasn't visited the troops -- thanks to Trump

Since the United States went to war with Iraq and Afghanistan, 4,410 members of the military have died according to military numbers. Typically presidents have visited members of the military in the hospital or military bases to show compassion for their sacrifice and thank them for their dedication to America. Not this year, however.

NBC News noted that President Donald Trump is the first since 2002 not to even be willing to make the 8-mile jaunt to Walter Reed to visit the troops. While Trump did continue the long-running tradition of calling troops stationed around the country and the world, taking the short drive was too much.

"Based on a check of NBC logs, former President Barack Obama visited troops at Marine Corps Base Hawaii, in Kaneohe Bay, every Christmas he was in office, from 2009 to 2016," NBC reported.

Former President George W. Bush began the tradition in 2002 by driving to Walter Reed. Trump even continued the tradition last year when he also drove to the military hospital.
