Florida governor tells fellow Republicans: Let's all unite around Trump

Florida Gov. Rick Scott (R) is endorsing Donald Trump for the GOP nomination, the day after his state's big primary — and he's calling on Republicans to end the primary season, and unite around The Donald.

"I’m asking all Republicans today to come together and begin preparing to win the general election in November," Scott wrote Wednesday on Facebook. "With his victories yesterday, I believe it is now time for Republicans to accept and respect the will of the voters and coalesce behind Donald Trump."

Scott notably did not endorse any candidate in the primary, even though his state's senator, Marco Rubio (who had been elected at the same time as Scott, in 2010), was runnin, and had been the only Floridian left in the race after Jeb Bush dropped out. Rubio lost Tuesday's primary in Florida in a landslide against Trump, and ended his own campaign last night.

"This has been a hard fought primary, with an outstanding roster of excellent candidates, including two of Florida’s favorite sons, and several Republican Governors who are close friends of mine," Scott further says. "But the voters are speaking clearly – they want a businessman outsider who will dramatically shake up the status quo in Washington."

Scott also warned his fellow Republicans to stop beating up Trump as their eventual nominee.

"If we spend another four months tearing each other apart, we will damage our ability to win in November. It’s time for an end to the Republican on Republican violence. It’s time for us to begin coming together, we’ve had a vigorous primary, now let’s get serious about winning in November."
