Florida pot advocates collect enough signatures for a ballot initiative

A campaign to put a medical marijuana petition on the Florida ballot has enough verified petition signatures necessary to qualify for the ballot, campaign organizers said Friday.
United for Care, the medical marijuana campaign in Florida, needed 683,149 in 14 separate congressional districts to win ballot access, the campaign said in a blog post. The Supervisors of Elections validated more than 710,000 petition signatures this week.
"This is an amazing feat. I have to admit, less than a year ago I never thought we'd see this day - but thanks to your support and hard work, we were able to make history together." said Ben Pollara, Campaign Manager for United for Care.
The Florida Supreme Court still has to approve or reject the wording of the ballot question. To pass, the initiative requires 60 percent of the vote.
