Former U.S. ambassador Christopher Hill unloaded on President Trump in a seemingly endless rant attacking the president on everything from trade policy to its response to the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.
Noting the high five traded by Russian President Vladimir Putin and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, host Chris Jansing asked Hill what he thought of the president's refusal to accept his own intelligence services' conclusion that the crown prince had ordered Khashoggi's murder, setting off a firestorm.
"I think the problem is President Trump simply has put all his eggs in the Saudi basket," Hill said, saying Trump was kowtowing to the Kingdom in hopes that "maybe they'll do something historic like recognize Israel or something." He added, "That's in disarray. It's not going to work."
"The president has trouble backing off from things," Hill continued, handing the president a backhanded compliment for ratcheting down the trade war with China. But even that, he suggested, was borne by the president's need for help on "North Korea, an issue that's going nowhere right now for him."
The real question is what is the president going to do with the Iran situation," he added. "Again, it's another case where he blows something up without any concept of what should replace it in time."
