Former Trump campaign aide Carter Page has been under surveillance since 2014: report

A CNN report commemorating the year anniversary of investigations into Russia's election-meddling in 2016 revealed new information about one of President Donald Trump's more troublesome associates.

According to the report, Trump's former foreign policy adviser Carter Page has been suspected as a foreign agent since as early as 2014 -- "earlier than had been previously reported," a source said.

"Page had been the subject of a secret intelligence surveillance warrant since 2014," the report noted.

The Hill's Jordan Fabian clarified the warrant on Twitter, saying Page has likely been under investigation by the United States Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court, authorized by the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act of 1978.

The CNN report continued by saying that suspicion regarding whether Russian intelligence officials were attempting to use Page to gain access to the Trump campaign prompted the FBI to "renew their interest in him."
