Former Trump hotel boss not surprised by shutdown debacle: 'Once things are going wrong he takes no ownership'

A former Trump hotel executive explained why it's unsurprising that Donald Trump is threatening to shut the government down over not getting his way on the border wall.

Jack O’Donnell, the onetime president of the Trump Plaza Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City, told The Washington Post that the president's shutdown threat mirrors behavior he witnessed in the past.

“It’s really indicative of how we all know he thinks so in-the-moment and so off-the-cuff that it winds up being dangerous," O'Donnell said.

“The whole idea of once things are going wrong, he takes no ownership — that’s just Trump,” the boss of the hotel that the president removed his name from prior to its 2014 closure said. “He does not own anything that goes wrong."

"The problem is," O'Donnell added, that Trump will "blame anybody" for his actions.

"Obviously, it’s the Democrats in this situation," he added.

The entire debacle has been "classic Trump," O'Donnell told the Post, noting that the president used his televised showdown with Democratic leaders Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi to look tough for his fans. He did so, the former Trump Plaza Hotel boss said, without a plan on what to do next.

“That’s really what this was: ‘I’m a tough guy. Don’t think I can’t handle the heat,’” O’Donnell said. “The fact is, he can’t handle it.”
