Former US Attorney: FBI's handling of email review has been a 'convoluted mess'

A former U.S. Attorney has stepped forward to state FBI Director James Comey has turned the investigation into Democratic presidential nominee's emails into a "convoluted mess," dating back to Comey's July press conference.

Comey upset higher-ups at the Justice Department and at the FBI when he released a letter on Friday, saying emails discovered on a computer belonging to Clinton aide Huma Abedin are "pertinent" to an investigation of the former Secretary of State's private email server.

As reported by The Hill, former U.S. Attorney for New Mexico David Iglesias told a radio host on Sunday that Comey has inserted himself into a the case in an unprecedented way.

“When he held his press conference a couple of months ago, I was really surprised he would do that because the FBI almost never does press conferences," Iglesias told radio host John Catsimatidis.

"And when he said no reasonable prosecutor should prosecute this case, that was unprecedented. I'm not aware of any other FBI director that's ever said that because that's not the call of the FBI, it's the Justice Department's," he continued.

"The is the most convoluted mess that I can think of in recent U.S. history," Iglesias added.
