Former US attorney on CNN smashes GOP's attempts to dismiss Kavanaugh's history of alcoholism and violence

In a Tuesday appearance on CNN, former Assistant U.S. Attorney Elie Honig slammed Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell's "dismissal" of Brett Kavanaugh's college drinking and fighting, saying the nominee's behavior as a young adult supports the claims of the women accusing Kavanaugh of sexual assault. Kavanaugh has categorically denied those claims.

"I think it matters what his credibility is now at age 53 and it matters very much what he did and how he acted back at the time of the attack alleged by Dr. Ford," Honig said. Kavanaugh's truthfulness about his young adult years has been called into question by his own classmates at the time.

"We heard Senator McConnell before that sort of dismiss the inquiry into the drinking and fighting as trivial attacks. I disagree," he added. "These are not trivial. The way that Kavanaugh and [Mark] Judge conducted themselves, drank, behaved, is central to Dr. Ford's allegation."

Honig went further, saying Kavanaugh's history with alcohol is the "central" issue in the allegations swirling around the Supreme Court nominee. "If he was in fact drunk to the point of no memory, his defense is fairly meaningless. This is why we have an investigation."
