'They know better': Ex-Trump aide furious about GOP's 'dishonest' Easter conspiracy

The co-hosts of "The View" trashed Republicans after outrage over a theory that President Joe Biden intentionally scheduled the Transgender Day of Awareness on Easter.

The trans holiday always falls on March 31. Easter is a different day each year because the Christian holiday depends on the moon cycle.

Still, right-wingers spread the claim that Biden, a devout Catholic, prioritized the day for transgender people over Easter. Unlike Donald Trump, Biden attends church weekly and did so again on Easter. Trump's campaign wouldn't respond to questions about whether he attended services.

However, a 2022, People magazine report quoted a member of Trump’s inner circle saying: “He’s no longer president, so he doesn’t have to go to church.”

"The fact you're saying this to the most Catholic president we've had in years is extraordinary to me," blasted co-host Whoopi Goldberg. "Republican officials like Ted Cruz and Speaker Mike Johnson echoed these lies. Are they intentionally misleading Americans, or are they just dumb?"

Joy Behar called it GOP hypocrisy and said Trump worship is "sacrilegious."

"This man was found liable for sexual [abuse] and runs around with a Bible that he's never read," she exclaimed. "Who is having an affair with a porn star while his wife is home nursing a baby. So, shut up already."

But it was fellow Catholic Sunny Hostin who unleashed on the Christians who support Trump.

"I'm so angry about this because they're misrepresenting the message of Jesus and Christianity," Hostin exclaimed. "You know, the transgender community is 1.6% of our community, and if you know anything about Jesus, you know that he welcomed lepers, he welcomed prostitutes, he welcomed the least desirables among us in society at that time."

"I was in church on Easter Sunday, and our entire homily at St. Charles in Harlem was about Jesus and about how he got up because of us and for us and gave his life for us. And so, for them to be so hypocritical in the name of Jesus is blasphemy and you ought to be ashamed of yourselves."

Some supporters of Trump have gone as far as to suggest the former president is the second coming of Christ. He shared an article comparing himself to Jesus on Holy Saturday. The piece, from the Washington Times, was titled "The Crucifixion of Donald Trump."

“They’ve crucified him worse than Jesus,” Trump supporter Andriana Howard, 67, told The New York Times.

But on "The View," it was former White House communications director Alyssa Farah Griffin who accused Fox and conservatives of being deliberately dishonest.

"I tried to disconnect, so I wasn't checking but, I had family texting," she said about the conspiracy that Biden intentionally scheduled the Trans Day of Visibility on Easter. "It took 30 seconds to Google. For 15 years, March 31st has been the Trans Day of Visibility, and Joe Biden hosted the Easter Egg Roll, went to Easter mass, and put out a proclamation on Easter.

"It is so absurd and they know better. He was rage-tweeting at a judge!"

She noted there was also an attack on churches that welcomed transgender people to services.

"There is nothing less in touch with the gospel," she said.

Trump doesn’t have the best history when it comes to talking to those with Christian faith. He couldn’t name any verse in the Bible when asked about it.
