Fox Business host reveals why he thinks Trump 'came out the winner' after NABJ interview

Former Deputy Director of the National Economic Council, Larry Kudlow, attempted to turn Donald Trump's combative interview with Black journalists into a positive about tax cuts.

"Is she Black, or is she Indian?" Trump asked of the biracial vice president, Kamala Harris.

During his Thursday show on Fox Business, Kudlow dismissed criticisms of Trump's racially charged language.

"You know, I mentioned Mr. Trump's tax cuts," he began. "I just thought yesterday, okay, went into the lion's den with the convention of Black journalists. He faced some pretty strong criticism. Thank goodness for Harris Faulkner, by the way."

Kudlow has spent the past 24 hours calling the conference of Black journalists "the lion's den," which is a reference to the biblical story of Daniel, in which the king threw anyone who prayed to any god other than the king would be thrown to the lions.

Faulkner was in the third seat of moderators, at the event. ABC News' Rachel Scott and Semafor's Kadia Goba were in the two seats before her on the stage.

"But I thought he came out the winner," said Kudlow. "And the reason I thought he came out the winner — I guess I'll start with my pal Brian Mast is because he emphasized border, inflation, economy, tax cuts."

Kudlow claimed that Trump reinforced those "again, and again."

Kudlow later tried to make the same point when speaking to Vivek Ramaswamy, saying Trump was "completely on message." But the former GOP candidate didn't buy into it, saying that the media is only showing the part of the narrative that was about race.

Harris has responded to Trump's criticism by telling him publicly to debate her.

"Say it to my face," has been her repeated comment.
