Fox hosts panic on air after realizing they booked the wrong Democrat — and get an earful about Trump’s baby jails

Fox News mistakenly booked the wrong Democrat during an early morning show, and she blasted President Donald Trump's separation policy for immigrant families.

Producers apparently intended to book Ann Kirkpatrick, a Democrat running in Arizona's 2nd Congressional District who was booed last week during a primary debate for expressing support for Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

The "Fox & Friends First" hosts introduced Kirkpatrick, and the on-screen graphic identified the guest as her, but who they got instead was Democrat Barbara L'Italien -- a fierce critic of ICE and the president.

"I'm actually here to speak directly to Donald Trump," said L'Italien, a Massachusetts state senator who's running to represent the state's 3rd Congressional District. "I believe that what is happening at the border is wrong. I'm a mother of four, and I believe that separating kids from their parents is illegal and inhumane."

She then revealed the mistake, and tried to walk through the terror felt by those parents and children separated at the border and held in detention centers as the hosts grew visibly alarmed.

"We must stop abducting children and ripping them from their parents' arms, stop putting kids in cages and stop making 3-year-olds defend themselves in court," L'Italien said.

The hosts push back and argue the policy has ended, still mistakenly believing the guest is Kirkpatrick, but producers cut L'Italien's feed when she again identifies herself.

"Who is this?" host Rob Schmitt asked, and smirked. "That didn't go as planned."

A Fox News executive producer issued a statement later Monday claiming that L'Italien misled producers before she appeared live on air.

"Despite speaking to producers prior to the interview, L’Italien did not identify herself as anything other than Kirkpatrick until she was live on air, at which point we ended the interview," said Desiree Dunne, executive producer for "Fox & Friends First."
