Fox News guest: Alton Sterling 'has to take responsibility' in fatal encounter with cops

Former Los Angeles police detective and convicted perjurer Mark Fuhrman attempted to pin the blame on Alton Sterling on Wednesday for the confrontation that led to his death at the hands of two Baton Rouge police officers.

"This man has to take responsibility that he did have a gun, and he conducted himself in some manner to draw attention to a citizen who called the police," Fuhrman told Fox News host Megyn Kelly. "And after that, the one officer, if this is the way it went down, one officer shot, one officer didn't. When you hear, 'He's got a gun,' if the other officer now uses deadly force, it's because he believes that that gun is in the hand or is attempting to be put in the hand of the suspect."

Fuhrman did not mention that Louisiana state laws allow for firearms to be carried by adults without a permit. Also, newly-released footage shows that Sterling's gun was in his pocket -- not in his hand -- at the time of his encounter, which has sparked protests and calls for the arrests of Officers Howie Lake and Blane Salamoni.

Fuhrman said that the two officers were responding to a call saying a man was threatening someone with a gun outside the convenience store where Sterling made a living selling CDs with the consent of store owner Abdullah Muflahti. However, Muflahti himself has disputed this account, saying there was no "altercation" between Sterling and the officers before they tackled him to the ground.

"He's not that type of person," Muflahti told The Daily Beast. "It would have been a very big problem to pull his gun out."
