Wednesday sees closing arguments in Paul Manafort's trial for financial crimes, and Fox News is already prepping for the possibility of a guilty verdict which could send Donald Trump's former campaign manager to jail for the rest of his life.
On Outnumbered, co-host Melissa Francis laid out the possibility that Manafort was secretly under the employ of a hostile foreign government while running the Trump campaign.
"As I listen to this case, and as they lay it out... my mind jumps ahead to the Russia probe, and it's not hard for me to take that leap that he might have accepted money in order to lobby on behalf of Russians within the campaign. It doesn't take a huge leap. That's now what we've seen here and that's not what it's about, but when you look at how it's all laid out."
Francis seemed to be running a trial balloon on a new narrative, in which Manafort was paid by Russians to influence the campaign while only telling Trump that he was working for free..
"From there, it is a huge leap to say, 'Well, would the president have known in that case?' The rest of the case from there," she said.
