Fox News host Jeanine Pirro melts down over 'her hero' Trey Gowdy for 'going to the dark side'

Republican Trey Gowdy is the latest Republican to feel the wrath of hardened Trumpistas.

The South Carolina congressman was a hero to the Tea Party when he was leading the Benghazi investigation.

But on Wednesday, the former federal prosecutor made the uncontroversial statement that the FBI did what it “should have done” and that informants such as the one used by the FBI used to talk to the Russia-connected aides in Trump's campaign was done “all day, every day by law enforcement.”

And that has caused a meltdown by other rightwing extremists, such as Fox News host Jeanine Pirro who dedicated the opening of her Saturday night show to bashing Gowdy with three of his fellow Tea Partiers: Mark Meadows, Jim Jordan and Ron DeSantis.

They all said they liked Gowdy, before this.

"He is, in fact, one of my hereos," Pirro said. "I don't know if he went to the dark side or what."

The men all agreed they need to protect Trump, even suggesting that maybe Hillary Clinton's campaign should be investigated.

"We need McConnell and Paul Ryan to put on their big boy pants," Pirro said. "They're a bunch of fraudsters right now."
