Beck omits own analogy comparing Obama White House to 'Planet of the Apes'

In a writeup for FoxNews.com, opinion host Glenn Beck appears to have omitted a key phrase that he uttered during a recent broadcast which struck significant controversy online for his comparison of the Obama administration and the science fiction film "Planet of the Apes".

Reacting to a speech President Barack Obama gave on August 4, Beck seemed aghast at the notion that union laborers have helped Democrats push back against corporate special interest groups.

Flailing his arms and pointing at a union insignia behind the president, the Fox News host jeered:

What planet have I landed on? Did I slip through a worm hole in the middle of the night and this looks like America? It's like the damn Planet of the Apes. Nothing makes sense!

However, on the Fox News Web site, Beck's own writing comes out a bit differently. The site reads:

What planet have I landed on? On what planet does this look sustainable? Probably the same one where Andy Stern is on the financial oversight committee. Is this really who we want to cater to and take advice from? The unions? They are the ones who are bankrupting us.

"Nope. No racism there," Salon's Joan Walsh sarcastically opined. "Beck didn't mean anything by the reference to "apes." Don't be oversensitive. How could Glenn Beck know that you can find "Planet of the Apes: A four year Obama survival guide" on the white supremacist site Stormfront.org? Or countless Google images and blog posts comparing Michelle Obama to the character "Dr. Zira"? Or the fact that, frankly, you can't swing a cat on the Internet without coming across some comparison of Obama's political rise to the apes' ascendance in, yes, 'Planet of the Apes' (but some of them are careful to state upfront that race has nothing to do with the comparison!)"

Indeed, the analogy between President Obama and the 60s sci-fi film "Planet of the Apes" is featured by white supremacist Web site Stormfront, carrying a particularly offensive image depicting the president and first lady as primates.

Beck, who insists he's not a racist, has attacked President Obama in the past as harboring a secret agenda to achieve "black reparations" for slavery.
