Fox News panel erupts into shouting match after guest mentions Merrick Garland

A Fox News panel on Friday got heated when guest Jake Macoby, a speechwriter for former Attorney General Eric Holder, said that Republicans have no right to complain about obstructing Supreme Court nominees given how they treated Merrick Garland.

While debating with Lisa Boothe and Kennedy on Fox's "Outnumbered," Macoby invoked Garland to remind conservatives that they in the past have had no problem with keeping Supreme Court seats open.

"A president nominated a person for the Supreme Court and they held it open for a year!" he said.

Boothe then ranted about former Vice President Joe Biden supposedly establishing a precedent that Supreme Court justices don't get confirmed in presidential election years, even though no such precedent existed before 2016.

"I'm sorry, we spent a year waiting for the Senate to take up Merrick Garland's nomination," he said. "They never did -- this process, from beginning to end, has taken three months."

Kennedy then interjected to accuse Democrats of wanting to avenge Garland's treatment by spiking Kavanaugh's nomination.

"If you're talking about vengeance for Merrick Garland -- which, obviously, from Chuck Schumer's statement the moment Brett Kavanaugh was announced, and if you go through every thing Democrats have thrown at this judge, whether it's valid or completely invalid, it's been all about revenge!" she said.
