Fox News' Shep Smith can't hide his bafflement as Trump's diplomacy turns the world 'topsy turvy'

On Thursday, following a joint press conference by President Donald Trump and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzō Abe—in which Trump reiterated his pledge to achieve a de-nuclearized North Korea—Fox News host Shepard Smith wondered why Trump plans to meet with the head of a murderous regime while angering U.S. allies.

"I'm trying to understand and I'm sure a lot of people are trying to understand what is going on with our allies and enemies. We're arguing with most of our allies, traditional allies in Europe, our allies to the north in Canada. Canada is going seriously? That's a quote from one of their leaders -- it's a topsy-turvy land," he remarked.

"For clarity, Kim Jong-un murdered his brother. That's just the beginning. Kim Jong-un has had generations of families locked up for things granddad did," Smith pointed out.

"In a perfect world upon conviction, if it were in the United States, in many states, he could be put to death. Instead today we're talking about him having a visit to the White House," Smith said.

"It is hard to wrap your head around. You want to make things better on the Korean peninsula? Of course. But I don't know if we need to be friends with a murderer," Smith pointed out.

Even though plenty of US heads of state have met with innumerable dictators accused of murdering their own people, a meeting with the North Korean regime is a first.
