Fox News anchor Jesse Watters fed into conspiracy theories that the FBI was somehow complicit in the attempted assassination on former president Donald Trump during his live coverage of the Republican National Convention Thursday.
While recapping how GOP Senators chased U.S. Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle down a hallway at the convention earlier in the day, Watters noted a lack of on-camera interviews from the FBI.
“Running away from Republicans demanding answers about an assassination attempt that your inactions made possible makes Americans not trust you,” Watters said. “Smells like a cover up.”

Far-right lawmakers jumped on conspiracy theories that the FBI either orchestrated or permitted the attempt on Trump’s life Saturday, including Colorado Rep. Scott Bottoms. On Thursday, Tennessee Senator Marsha Blackburn posted a video to X showing Wyoming Senator John Barrasso confronting Cheatle at the conference, demanding a “resignation or full explanation to us right now,” regarding the attack.
“You cannot hide from us. You owe answers,” Blackburn can be heard saying in the video.
Cheatle dodged questions before retreating behind a closed door.
Watters comment comes amid demands from Republican lawmakers such as Senator Ted Cruz that Cheatle get fired for allowing the shooter to infiltrate Trump’s rally in Butler, Pennsylvania last week.
