A conservative Fox reporter and supporter of Donald Trump sounded the alarm on Wednesday over worrying polling on the president.
FOX Biz senior correspondent Charles Gasparino, who reports on Trump often and earned the ire of MAGA when he reported that conservatives were wrong to suggest Trump outsmarted the world with tariffs, pointed to a Newsweek report called, "Trump’s Approval Rating Underwater in Every Swing State for First Time."
According to Gasparino, that fact "has got to be scary for the White House, given the president's recent foreign policy success, successes to end wokeness, and change the country in a better direction."
As for a reason for the low polling, despite what the conservative calls Trump's many successes, Gasparino suggests it's the economy.
"I suspect the reason for his low approvals is the economy. It doesn't suck, but it's still not good enough to make up for the lack of purchasing power lost during the Biden years," he wrote, targeting a key Trump policy move.
"One reason has to be higher tariffs; they are a tax increase falling primarily on Middle America and it appears at least for now they not being offset enough by AI productivity gains, or the supply-side push of deregulation and the extension of the tax cuts. I know the stock market appears to be signaling better times ahead, but stocks are addicted to cheap money, and Powell has signaled lower interest rates to deal with economic headwinds, which isn't good for main street -- aka most American voters -- who aren't heavily invested in stocks," he wrote. "Meanwhile, gold prices are soaring sending mixed signals about the dollar and inflation. Lots of mixed economic signals on top of the reality that midterms are always difficult for the party in power. Story developing as they say..."
