Fox's Chris Wallace sets Bill Barr and his own colleagues straight for distorting Mueller's letter

Chris Wallace, the anchor of Fox News Sunday, on Wednesday corrected both his own colleagues and the attorney general for distorting a letter that special counsel Robert Mueller sent to Bill Barr.

"Clearly, when you look closely at the letter, Bob Mueller was concerned about the public perception of his team," Fox News host Martha MacCallum said.

Later, Fox News host Sandra Smith asked Wallace to address the situation: "He did make it very clear, William Barr, that when he called Robert Mueller to ask him about his concern in that letter, that none of that was concerned about accuracy. The accuracy in William Barr’s characterization of the Mueller report."

"I've got to say, I don’t agree with that," Wallace replied.

"I know that is what Barr said, but I don’t think if you read — what we got today was we finally got a copy of the letter that Mueller sent to Barr on March 27. When he read the letter, there’s really a lot in it.

"First, we find out it wasn’t the only letter that Mueller sent Barr. He in fact sent him another letter on March 25, the day after Barr's four-page report in which he said that there was no collusion -- the bottom line conclusions -- there was no collusion, and while it didn’t convict him, it didn’t exonerate him either," Wallace continued.

"It turns out that Mueller sends a letter to Barr on March 25, the day after that, in which he specifically talks about, I would like you to be able to release more information. And he specifically says, I’ve got the conclusions and the executive summary and I’m also requesting that you provide these materials to Congress and authorize their release along with two sentences for review, none of which we need to be redacted. Barr decides not to do that."

"Later, he sends him another letter. In it he says — and he isn’t talking about press reaction. He’s talking about the Barr [summary]. And he says, the summary letter, that the department sent a Congress did not fully capture the context, nature, and substance of this office’s work and conclusions. He says we communicated that to you on March 25. He said there is now public confusion about critical aspects of the results," Wallace added.
