President Donald Trump shared an anecdote Saturday night that he claimed was proof that he had “among the highest IQs anywhere in the world.”
Speaking at his rally in Vandalia, Ohio, Trump doubled down on his pledge to authorize $5,000 checks to every adult citizen should Republicans maintain their congressional majorities after the midterms. Amid doubts that he would follow through on his promise — with critics having noted that Trump failed to deliver on two previously promised checks for Americans — Trump pointed to the $1,776 “warrior dividend” checks his administration paid out to U.S. service members.
As he recalled the “warrior dividend” checks, Trump said that he was initially presented with a plan to send out $1,775 checks to U.S. service members. Trump then claimed that he, and only he, noticed that the dollar amount was one dollar shy of $1,776, a reference to the year of American independence.
“Nobody saw it but me, I'm very proud, it was very intelligent,” Trump said. “I'm a high-IQ person unlike some other people I can tell you about... among the highest IQs anywhere in the world!”
Trump’s rally comes just 31 days out from the midterms, which polling data suggests may be dire for Republican candidates across the country.
