Fox's Gregg Jarrett drank vodka and took pills at airport bar after rehab release, police say

More details have emerged about the arrest of Fox News anchor Gregg Jarrett at a Minnesota airport bar.

A police report released Thursday shows the 59-year-old Jarrett was “acting very intoxicated” at the Northern Lights Grill in the main terminal of the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, reported the Associated Press.

Officers said Jarrett was sitting at the bar when they arrived shortly before 12:30 p.m., but he was swaying back and forth and using the bar as support.

A bar employee said Jarrett seemed very intoxicated after just one drink, and he said the broadcaster told another customer he had taken medication prior to his flight.

Police said he denied that, but admitted he had been drinking vodka since 9 a.m.

The Fox anchor was taken into police custody and placed in a holding cell to sober up, but police said he became agitated, grabbed an officer’s arm, and struggled with police.

More than one officer was needed to place him in handcuffs, police said.

Authorities said they found gabapentin pills in his pocket, and a search of Jarrett’s bag turned up papers that indicated he had just been released from an alcohol and chemical dependency treatment facility.

Gabapentin is typically used to treat seizure disorders, restless leg syndrome, or pain related to shingles, and side effects include drowsiness, dizziness, loss of coordination, and "strange or unusual thoughts."

It wasn't clear whether Jarrett had a valid prescription for the medication.

Jarrett was charged with one count of obstructing the legal process and was released about 1:30 a.m. on $300 bond.

He is due to appear in court June 6.

Jarrett has not appeared on air since April 12, when viewers noticed the weekend co-anchor slurring his words and acting strangely.

He left his shift early that day, and he asked for and received time off from his job earlier this month, and a Fox spokesperson issued a statement Thursday saying no timetable has been set for his return.

Jarrett has worked for Fox News since 2002, after previously working for MSNBC and Court TV.
