Furious Trump lashes out at his 'naive' intelligence chiefs for contradicting him on Iran

President Donald Trump on Wednesday criticized intelligence and law enforcement officials after they contradicted him at a Senate Intelligence hearing on Tuesday.

"The Intelligence people seem to be extremely passive and naive when it comes to the dangers of Iran. They are wrong! When I became President Iran was making trouble all over the Middle East, and beyond. Since ending the terrible Iran Nuclear Deal, they are MUCH different, but...." the president tweeted.

"...a source of potential danger and conflict. They are testing Rockets (last week) and more, and are coming very close to the edge. There economy is now crashing, which is the only thing holding them back. Be careful of Iran. Perhaps Intelligence should go back to school!"

Trump abruptly withdrew from the Obama-era Iran nuclear deal after becoming president. He railed against the deal as "defective at its core."

"It is clear to me that we cannot prevent an Iranian nuclear bomb under the decaying and rotten structure of the current agreement," Trump said in 2018.

But US intelligence officials told the Senate on Tuesday that Iran did not appear to be actively seeking nuclear weapons.

"Iran is not currently undertaking the key nuclear weapons-development activities we judge necessary to produce a nuclear device," said Daniel Coats, the director of national intelligence.

“At the moment technically they are in compliance” with deal, Central Intelligence Agency director Gina Haspel later added.
