'Charlie Kirk, give us some advice': Gavin Newsom asks MAGA star for help in new podcast

California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) launched his new podcast this week by asking MAGA influencer Charlie Kirk to help craft a strategy for Democrats.

On the first episode of This is Gavin Newsom, the California governor discussed issues such as transgender athletes in sports with Kirk, the founder of Turning Point USA.

"I'm concerned, because you have expressed that I should be concerned as a Democrat, that we're getting clobbered, that you've figured something out," Newsom told Kirk. "Seriously, Charlie Kirk, give us some advice."

"Get better ideas, governor," Kirk replied before pointing to the issue of transgender women participating in sports.

"The issue of fairness is completely legit. So I completely align with you," Newsom agreed. "And we've got to own that. We've got to acknowledge it."

"You guys are giving us an 80-20 issue that is just permeating the country," Kirk opined. "It's such an affront to our senses."

"I completely agree," Newsom said. "So that's easy to call out, the unfairness of that. There's also a humility and a grace that these poor people are more likely to commit suicide, have anxiety and depression."

"And the way that people talk down to vulnerable communities is an issue that I have a hard time with as well," the governor added. "So both things I can hold in my hand."

"How can we address this issue with the kind of decency that I think is inherent in you, but not always expressed on the issue?"
