Kemp has 'blood on his hands' for deaths of pregnant women: reproductive rights advocate

Reproductive rights advocates are blaming Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp for the deaths of women who received delayed emergency care due to the state's anti-abortion laws.
MSNBC's Nicolle Wallace on Tuesday centered on how, just weeks before the death of Amber Thurman from pregnancy complications, attorneys for the state dismissed plaintiffs seeking to block the state's new six-week abortion ban as "fearmongering."
"The term is typically associated with an exaggeration or something that isn't happening ... tragically, for Amber, and too many women, this is all way too real," said Wallace. "How has the reality sort of caught up to the lies? It feels like they aren't getting away with the disinformation. Voters know better."
"So if women are called fearmongering, women are called hysterical, imagine what Black women in this country who are facing an incredible maternal health crisis are being called," said Reproductive Freedom for All director Mini Timmaraju. "It's important to remember this is a community of women who are most affected by these abortion bans because they're already experiencing pregnancy in a crisis, even prior to Dobbs."

The simple fact, she continued, is that "Brian Kemp has blood on his hands."
I'm just going to say that. It's important to understand, there is something he can do about it. He, just like the rest of his extremist party ... they are intent to downplay the damage they have caused this country and this state. That state of Georgia. They want us to be perceived as hysterical. Just a bunch of hysterical activist women, fearmongering, reporters are fearmongering," said Timmaraju.
She called them "life-and-death situations" and noted most U.S. women who need an abortion or related care are already mothers.
"We are talking about putting mothers of children in extreme danger," she said, noting that pregnancy is the "most dangerous time for most American women" — and most women in the world.
"This is unconscionable. It is disqualifying. It has to be stopped and we have to — we have to mobilize and make sure people understand there's no alternate position anymore in this country. You are for restoring abortion rights, or you're on the side of death and devastation for mothers in this country" Timmaraju said.
