A fraternity at the University of Georgia has been notified it has been suspended after a video surfaced on Twitter showing one member mock beating another with a belt while chanting ''pick my cotton, n*gger," as other fraternity members stood by and laughed.
In the video, one member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon (TKE) fraternity member hits his fraternity brother with a belt as his victim cries out, “I’m not black!”
“Pick my cotton! Pick my cotton, b*tch,” the member wielding the belt replies.
As an off-screen voice states, "Whoa, you’re not using the right words,” to which the belt wielder adds, "Pick my cotton, n****r."
According to a statement from UGA's student government leaders, the suspension is immediate.
“The executive officers of the Student Government Association are aware of a video circulating on social media that depicts individuals identified as members of a UGA Greek organization using racist language and engaging in behaviors that mock the suffering of enslaved peoples,” the statement notes. “We have been notified that the chapter is currently suspended, and we can confirm that there is an investigation underway regarding the students involved in the video.”
