Georgia Republican calls out Trump on Senate floor: 'Anybody who tarnishes McCain’s reputation deserves a whipping'

In a statement given on the Senate floor, Sen. Johnny Isakson (R-GA) seemed to allude to President Donald Trump when using flowery language to describe what he thinks about those who "disrespect" the late John McCain.

"Anyone who tarnishes the reputation of John McCain deserves a whipping," Isakson said. "Cause most of the ones who would do the wrong thing by John McCain didn't have the guts to do the right thing when it was their turn."

"I would say to the president or anybody in the world, it's time to pause and say this was a great man," the senator continued. "He gave everything for us. We owe him nothing less than the respect that he earned."

His comments came as McCain's former Senate colleagues took to the floor to share stories about him.
